Rocky Lake Elementary

African Heritage Month

Dear Families,

Here at Rocky Lake Elementary we have begun celebrating African Heritage Month. This year's provincial theme is Seas of Struggle – African Peoples from Shore to Shore, which recognizes the resiliency, strength, and determination of people of African descent from the shores of Africa to the shores of Nova Scotia -- with the Atlantic Ocean being the everlasting connection. The theme highlights the role the sea has played in the long-standing history of people of African descent in the development of Canada and Nova Scotia.

We have created a calendar filled with lots of local and Canadian history that is being shared with you today. This calendar is a supplement to all of the learning and celebrations already taking place at school and in the classrooms. Feel free to follow along with the calendar and use each day as a conversation starter for your family.
